Purpose of the RPK Experiment

(Updated May 22, 2013)
The blog posts below are a running account of an experiment that began on August 14, 1965. It has taken this long to get it this simple and for technology to be available.

The present design is a descendant of the 1980s "PK Party" (spoon bending) developed by Jack Houck. Its purpose is to experience and explain the phenomenon of remote psychokinesis and to understand its uncertainties.

We are attempting to produce an NCR (non-consensus reality) event in a CR (consensus reality) frame of reference in order to learn how to apply what physicist/psychologist Arnold Mindell calls The Edge between Physics and Psychology in his seminal work Quantum Mind, published in 2000. We believe that this process will lead us to a more mature understanding of our physical and psychological capabilities, which will in turn help us develop deeper social responsibility for our planet in terms of raising our individual and collective awareness. We believe that this will help transform societal attitudes from ideological needs to subdue, dominate or control each other or other beings of all kinds (animate and inanimate). We believe that this can happen only by partnering and supporting each other in raising our mutual awareness in creative ways.

When I read this article about actor Jeff Bridges' character in the current movie Men Who Stare At Goats in a magazine received the day before Christmas Eve, I laughed out loud! How timely and appropriate!

If you read carefully, you will see mention of Jim Channon's commanding officer. Victoria, the wife of that officer once kept my RPK device on a table in her living room in Santa Fe as a conversation piece. She told me that it never ceased to evoke lively discussions. I'm tempted to call Victoria's experience Women who stare at hanging objects! HarHarHar! When she returned the device to me after several months, it had undergone an inadvertent fall off her table with the result that one of the tiny 1-inch long links in one of the two spring assemblies was missing. That is why the red object now hangs at a level one inch above the silver object. See:

The second RPK experiment is nearing operational status. The above RPK device has now been modified so that the objects again hang at the same level. (One spring link has been removed from the spring chain attached to the silver object.)

Reflecting on Flying Saucers

December 12, 2009
Updated: December 23, 2009

In reflecting on the origins of my most recent attempts at an RPK (remote psychokinesis) experiment, I recalled an intense dilemma long ago when I first began trying to reconcile what my heart was witnessing to my head. I was then a professional physical scientist.

The moment was on April 23, 1965, during work at General Atomic Laboratory in La Jolla, California. I had just received a newly published book titled Truth by Reason and by Revelation sent to me in care of the laboratory by LDS friend and mentor Howard E. Salisbury. The author was his nephew Frank B. Salisbury, a respected professor of botany at Colorado State University (now retired from Utah State University in Logan).. Howard wanted me to review the book from the perspective of a fellow believing Mormon scientist.

Prior to that day, my opinion of the subject of Flying Saucers or UFOs was that it was silly and a product of social hysteria. Not to be taken seriously. Yes, I was aware of Carl Jung's essay Flying Saucers, a Modern Myth, and let it go at just that. However, as I got into Frank B's book I came across a chapter on UFO's that intrigued me.

This stuff is not new, he wrote. Just take a look at ancient scriptures of all kinds and note the images. Forget the explanations. Just consider the images: Ezekiel, Isaiah, etc. Then compare them to the images being described by witness accounts these days. Lots of similarity.

Frank B. was writing in language and logic that I understood and accepted. I was no longer able to dismiss or marginalize what he was presenting. So, I approached my brother Virgil who was a US Air Force officer for information from the Air Force point of view, rather than more sensational newspaper accounts. I wanted something from inside the military arm that ought to know about such things, if any agency should. I knew nothing about what my brother had undergone after my memo to him of February 1965, but he nevertheless reluctantly responded to this new request a few weeks later.

What he gave me were two or three obscure newsletters written by a local man named George Adamski, who claimed personal contact with beings from extraterrestrial spacecraft. My brother made his personal opinion clear to me. In effect he said, "The guy is a kook. That is all I'm going to give you. Don't bother me with this stuff any more."

Although Adamski's newsletters to his followers were crudely written, they had a ring of truth to me. I couldn't write him off as a kook as did my brother. A few days later I became aware that Adamski had written three books, all of which were on the San Diego Library shelves. I checked them out and read them all. Their titles were: Flying Saucers have landed; Inside the Spaceships; and Flying Saucers Farewell.

I was profoundly affected by Adamski's story. "This guy is not making this stuff up!", I thought and decided to find him to see if he would come across to me eyeball to eyeball as he did in his books. It didn't take long before I learned that George Adamski had died on April 23, 1965 in Bethesda, Maryland--the very day my fascination began!

This synchronicity startled me.

Having no longer available someone claiming such experience to talk to directly, I began to wonder if there was an experiment I could design that help resolve my dilemma. If such an experiment were conceivable, I reasoned, it must meet three criteria, else I would not pursue it. The three criteria were: 1) it must be simple; 2) it must be direct; and 3) it must be self-evident. If those three criteria could be met (so I promised Providence in wondering about it), then I would not prejudice my mind further. I would follow my instincts where ever they lead.

Little did I know what I was opening myself into!

That was mid-May 1965. By the following mid-August a first image of my experiment came to mind in a dream, but which I had a hard time taking seriously. It seemed TOO simple! Nevertheless, later that same afternoon I was surprised to experience a personal sighting of the kind of spacecraft that I had been reading about. (See my archival blog accounts of those intervening events.) That seemingly too-simple dream image, plus the anchoring experience of the sighting, together with other unusual experiences that began to occur in my personal and professional life since then, has led me to the RPK experiment mentioned above more than 44 years later! Simple, direct and self-evident criteria, indeed!

Someone has said recently: "Time is quick, but life is slow". Or is it the other way around?

One might think that these intervening years with all their ups and downs and delays and detours would be enough to deter my intent to play this thread out. We shall soon see. Who knows? They might be the ravings of a madman after all. ;-) But, what a life's ride it has been--and continues to be!

Oh, my poor family and friends....

Stay tuned.

Interviewing Brother Whiteshirt

Original Post: October 3, 2009
Last Update: October 7, 2009

Consider a Recent Dream of Saturday morning October 3, 2009.
Dream: 0630, October 3, 2009
Scene a. Driving a car fast on a curving road like coming down the main hill from the mountain plateau of Los Alamos. There is one male passenger. Suddenly, I loose control of the vehicle and it veers into the cliff side to our right and dissolves. As we dissolve I think, "It's over. This is the end of it all…" CREEI Score: +?+??-//--+/++? Anticipatory-Traumatic

Scene b. The scene abruptly changes and the passenger and I are walking along a flat road in open territory wondering what has just happened. I do not recognize the man, who is wearing a white shirt. We are not injured in any way as I remember the car crash, but I am aware that I no longer have my notes, books or vehicle…. I do not know where we are going. CREEI Score: +?+++?//+++/+++ Anticipatory

Joseph Dillard's Deep Listening Interview
Date of interview: October 5, 2009

What are three fundamental life issues that you are dealing with now in your life?
Being Authentic and creative
Reconciling with the human family: friends and foes
Being open to the leading of the Holy Spirit

Tell me a dream or experience you remember...
See the above two scenes.

Why do you think that you had this dream?
In addition to the writings of Ken Wilber and Joseph Dillard plus recent personal conversations and exchanges with Dillard and my three active Mormon high priest Crystal Group brothers Ken, Rex and Clark, I have of late been heavily influenced by the writings and revived exchanges with an old friend, Arnold Mindell, who speaks of "edges" or obstacles in one's inner and outer life. [See Recontacting Arnold Mindell.] Also, I have felt prompted to open new dialogs with various religious traditions. [See Discourse with the Jews] At the same time I have been increasingly involved with the local Orthodox parish as a new member of the parish council in helping it grow as a community and deal with its immediate growing pains. [See: The Maestro's visit].

If it were playing at a theater, what name would be on the marquee?
Dissolving into Mission

These are the characters in the dream…
Scene a. Car, curved mountain road, cliff, passenger
Scene b. Open terrain, straight highway, male companion in white shirt

If one character had something especially important to tell you, which would it be?
Male companion in white shirt

Character, would you please tell me what you look like and what you are doing?
I am about Eugene's size and am wearing a white shirt. I have been sent to keep Eugene company and offer him counsel and protection when he needs or asks for it.

Character, what do you like most about yourself in this experience? What are your strengths?
I am from the angelic realm with instructions to aid Eugene. My strength is my connection with the divine mind.

Character, what do you dislike most about yourself? Do you have weaknesses? What?
I dislike nothing about myself and am secure in my assignment.

Character, if you could change this dream in any way you wanted, would you?
Not at all.

Character, if this dream were to continue, what would happen next?
Eugene has just experienced a collision with an edge, which has stripped him of all his familiar props. He is now in wide open space, walking with me in new territory. He and I together are missionary companions traveling "without purse or script" and open to whatever happens. We are equipped to respond as needed.

Character, if you could be anywhere you wanted to be and take any form you desired, would you change?
No.

Character, you are in Eugene’s dream, correct? He created you, right?
Yes, I am in this dream as I have been in others. But no, he did not create me.

Character, what aspect of Eugene do you represent or most closely personify?
I am the spiritual brother he has wished and prayed for all his life.

Do you have a name?
Brother Whiteshirt will do.

Character, how would you score yourself 0-10, in confidence, compassion, wisdom, acceptance, peace of mind, and witnessing?
Tens all.

Character, how would Eugene’s life be different if he naturally scored high in all six of these qualities all the time?
He would fulfill his purpose in this life and accomplish the work that has been assigned to him.

If you could live Eugene’s waking life for him, how would you live it differently?
I would not live it differently, that is not my job. I am here to comfort and counsel him, but have had to wait until he reached a level of spiritual maturity that allowed him to see me.

If you could live Eugene’s waking life for him today, would you handle his three life issues differently? If so, how?
His issues are right for him at this moment. It is not for me to "handle" them.

Character, what three life issues would you focus on if you were in charge of his life?
Not mine to say.

In what life situations would it be most beneficial for Eugene to imagine that he is you and act as you would?
Eugene has invited his family and friends and even strangers to critique his life and purpose. I am here to help him respond with the core qualities you have outlined, Joseph. In addition I help him evaluate the counsel of his new and old friends as well as deal with the attempts to marginalize his growing awareness and understanding by those who are unable to value his purpose..

Character, why do you think that you are in this dream?
I have just answered this question.

Eugene, what have you heard yourself say?
I am not sure I have said much. But if I have it is that I am determined to reach higher inner levels of wisdom and respond to my life and the lives of others with the core qualities Joseph has presented.

If this experience were a wake-up call from your soul, what do you think it would be saying to you?
Be ready for anything, Eugene (Arseny Pavel). You are now equipped to handle it.

On October 7, 2009 11:43 AM, Joseph Dillard said...
Dear Eugene,
If this were mine I would feel that I now had a clarity of inner support that I have longed for but not accessed. I would say that a "spiritual psychokinesis" was happening in my life, in that I was moved "physically" out of harm's way by alignment with that part of myself/the universe that scores tens in all six qualities. Namaste, Joseph

On October 7, 2009 1:30 PM, I responded
Thanks Joseph, I like your term "spiritual psychokinesis", which I'll shorten to "SPK" and which gives me more to consider regarding my pending RPK experiment. Also, I changed the dream title on the marquee from "Car crash and wandering" to "Dissolving into Mission". Namaste.

On October 7, 2009 at 4:44 PM, I sent a link to this post to keep Arny Mindell in the loop : [See: Recontacting Arnold Mindell]

Friend Arny,

Subject: Dissolving into and through an Edge!! Through QM chapter 22

Here is my process update report through QM Chapter 22: Hyperspaces.
In QM Chapter 19 you began to sound like teachings from some good old NCR Mormon stuff by its founder Joseph Smith! “As man is now, God once was; as God is now, man may become.” Heresy to most people two centuries ago and undoubted too narrow a view now, but pretty good for an unschooled guy in the 1830s. However, that last page in Chapter 22 was as clear and resonating as anything I’ve ever read! In sharing it with my local, shamanic 79-year-old Orthodox priest this morning, he lit right up!! THAT is where he and I both live!

Blessings, Eugene

On Wednesday, October 7, 10:05 PM Arny and wife Amy responded:
Dear Eugene,

Researching the patterns of the universe and connecting them with spiritual traditions everywhere is one of my greatest passions. Thanks for understanding and good luck in Los Alamos, arny also from amy

Interviewing the Elephant

This morning I awoke from a most interesting dream full of charming characters and situations. In reflecting on it the main non-human character is a large vehicle in the form of an elephant. Here is the dream:

Monday, 0500 21 September 2009
Scene a: With two men in an open field area. One man is a vigorous, disciplined, independent and take-charge type guy. He seems to be surveying the scene with future plans in mind and doesn't interact with me or the other man. I say to the other man that I'm grateful for having once been a bum, because remembering that keeps me from getting too inflated. The other man says he, too, was once a bum. [CREEI score: ++++++//+++/+++ Transformative, Confirming and/or Comforting]

Scene b. Am watching scene where a beautiful, angelic looking young blonde woman is being threatened by a crowd. She is up high off the ground with her back against a wall and as the crowd presses close she calmly extends her arm to gesture "stop!" with her hand. Everyone stops. She clearly takes command of the situation and then expresses her dismay to the crowd that they could have disrespected and disregarded her magnificent elephant. [CREEI score: +-?---//+++/++? Anticipatory]

Scene c. I am inside the elephant in the front operational seat as if it is in fact some kind of bus or large vehicle in the shape of an elephant. The angelic woman comes up to me from the right side (as if having come through the service door of a school bus) to tell me pleasantly not to have soap bubbles come out of the rear end of her magnificent elephant. I apologize saying "I'm new to this job." Another beautiful young woman, a brunette, clearly subservient to the blonde, then asks me to send her a file detailing the operation I'm supposed to be doing. I ask, "Who are you and where do I send the file?" Then two husky men come into the vehicle, climb into the driver seat and co-pilot seat around me to my left and begin operating the vehicle. They are clearly experienced and skillful. The elephant bus takes off quickly, but gently as the vehicle floats slightly off the ground (like a hovercraft) and is maneuvered deftly by the driver around street corners and intersections. [CREEI score: +?++++//+++/+++ Motivational]

Joseph Dillard's Deep Listening interview:

Date of interview: 21 September 2009

What are three fundamental life issues that you are dealing with now in your life?
Being authentic and creative.
Finding others who are or want to be authentic and creative.
Helping others who are or want to be authentic and creative.

Tell me a dream or experience you remember...
See above.

Why do you think that you had this dream?
It seems clearly in response to recent communications and conversations with Joseph Dillard and my Crystal Group friends (Rex, Ken & Clark) regarding the Remote PK experiment that I am currently working on. [Click here.]

If it were playing at a theater, what name would be on the marquee?
Magnificent Elephant Bus

These are the characters in the dream…
Scene a: Grassy field, Dream self, two men, clear sky, horizon
Scene b: Dream self, Angelic Blonde, Crowd, Wall
Scene c: Elephant Bus, Angelic Blonde, Angelic Brunette, Dream self; Two husky men drivers

If one character had something especially important to tell you, which would it be?
Elephant Bus

Character, would you please tell me what you look like and what you are doing?
I am a well-made large vehicle, designed to look like an elephant with large cargo capacity and able to travel fast with great maneuverability on land.

Character, what do you like most about yourself in this experience? What are your strengths?
I am beautiful and intimidating to look at. I can float and respond quickly to directions of all kinds from an operator. I am a dependable vehicle.

Character, what do you dislike most about yourself? Do you have weaknesses? What?
Nothing to dislike. No weaknesses.

Character, if you could change this dream in any way you wanted, would you?
It is not mine to change.

If so, Character, how would you change it?
Not applicable.

Character, if this dream were to continue, what would happen next?
Eugene would take note of how I function which is NOT by command or demand, but by gentle, loving suggestions from the operator. Eugene would also understand that what he has been doing has not worked in his or my best interest. Soap bubbles from my posterior is an indicator of his misunderstanding. He should write the report that the Brunette Angel has asked for.

Character, if you could be anywhere you wanted to be and take any form you desired, would you change? If so, how?
I would change nothing. It is fun to be here and watch how Eugene learns and becomes more effective.

Character, you are in Eugene’s dream, correct? He created you, right?
Yes, he created me, because I represent an ancient mythological creature of great wisdom that exists in him. He needs to get to know me intimately so that he can operate me as freely and easily as those Angelic training operators are doing at the moment.

Character, what aspect of Eugene do you represent or most closely personify?
I've just answered that.

Character, how would you score yourself 0-10, in confidence, compassion, wisdom, acceptance, peace of mind, and witnessing?
That is very easy. Tens all.

Character, how would Eugene’s life be different if he naturally scored high in all six of these qualities all the time?
He would effectively fulfill his purpose on earth for this lifetime.

If you could live Eugene’s waking life for him, how would you live it differently?
I would not live it differently. He is learning quickly, stumbles, mistakes and all. It's fun to watch. I do not worry about him.

If you could live Eugene’s waking life for him today, would you handle his three life issues differently? If so, how?
As I have already said, he is handling his life issues well. I would not change anything.

Character, what three life issues would you focus on if you were in charge of his life?
Being authentic and creative
Bringing the RPK experiment to resolution
Developing creative discourse between different religious traditions such as Mormon, Orthodox, Jewish, Sufi and others.

In what life situations would it be most beneficial for Eugene to imagine that he is you and act as you would?
Once he has understood me completely, he can allow himself to be driven by responsible, authentic and creative people.

Character, why do you think that you are in this dream?
To present Eugene with an imposing image that he would have a hard time ignoring and to give him a completely new perspective on what he is attempting to accomplish. He is learning about the power of love versus intimidating control.

Eugene, what have you heard yourself say?
I need to adjust my understanding of my purpose on this planet.

If this experience were a wake-up call from your soul, what do you think it would be saying to you?
I think I've got it.

Joseph Dillard replied from Berlin on September 21, 2009 1:47 PM:
Elephant, what do you think of Eugene's RPK experiment? If you were in charge, would you handle it the same way, or differently?

Elephant: Eugene's RPK experiment has kept him focused on a life-changing experience of long ago that he has been faithful in remembering. The experience offered only a hint to him in terms of a new life direction, but it was enough to motivate him to follow it through, despite much opposition and misunderstanding. He has not understood until recently that his scientific training has prejudiced his approach in favor of standard CR considerations. Now that he has been exposed to NCR thinking and applications, he is more open to modifying his original idea. I encourage him to follow this CR line, including the device he has assembled, but to be open to your NCR suggestions, Joseph, as well as to the subsequent CR modifications of his Mormon Crystal Group colleagues. He would do well to work on transforming his own attitudes into a less "forceful" style and one that is more "powerful" in terms of persuasion and empathy of the objects he is attempting to influence. He is attempting to demonstrate an "edge" between CR and NCR that could have far-ranging global implications.

Joseph Dillard on September 22, 2009 12:25 PM
Dear Eugene,
Please elaborate for me on your understanding of the difference between CR and NCR approaches.
Thanks,
Joseph

Joseph, CR and NCR are shortened terms coined by Arnold Mindell in his 2000 book Quantum Mind. Briefly, CR or "consensus reality" refers to the differing perceptions of individuals that correspond with one another. On the other hand, NCR or "non-consensus reality" are those perceptions of individuals that do not collectively correspond with one another.

Mindell refers to Einstein, who began this discussion in the early 1900s, by pointing out that perception and experience vary between individuals. Some of our perceptions correspond to one another while others do not. Quoting Einstein: "We are accustomed to regard as real those sense perceptions which are common to different individuals, and which therefore are, in a measure, impersonal. The natural sciences, and in particular, the most fundamental of them, physics, deal with such sense perceptions."

Mindell amplifies and critiques this by saying that "consensus reality (or CR), implies not only a general collective agreement of modern international culture, but also scientific authorization."

He continues, "How a person or a group defines the term 'real' is not an objective fact but a matter of opinion. Problems begin to arise when we use the term 'real' as if it were the absolute truth."

He concludes that "the result is a physics that splits itself off from parts of nature and from parts of human perception." [Quantum Mind, p 25]

I hope this addresses your request.

Saturday, September 26.

About the Angelic Blonde: she is clearly a powerful, caring character and I don't think I created her. She has come to help me in at least two ways: 1) facing an initially hostile inner crowd, stopping them from mischief and gaining their sympathy for "her" magnificent elephant, which the elephant claims I created. 2) then she gains my attention by alerting me to something I'm doing that's incorrect and unnecessary. When I read that part of the dream to Fr. John Hennies, he laughed and laughed and laughed. Obviously the image she used was graphic and informative. I got the message and have stood corrected.

Then the Angelic Brunette gives me something to think about by asking me to clarify my understanding how the elephant functions and to send her a report. That got me to thinking about what to write.

But then the two husky, experienced and skilled Angelic men come aboard to SHOW me how to operate the vehicle of my creation. Notice that there are no wheels on this vehicle, nor are there any levers requiring force such as steering wheel or brakes, etc. It's not a standard earth-like vehicle nor bound by gravity. Notice also that the co-pilot guy says something extremely personal to me that I did not report about the dream. If something important happens to my wife Birgitta, it will confirm my belief about his abilities and purpose.

First Remote PK Party

Original post: Monday, July 13, 2009
Latest update: Sunday, January 17, 2010

Jack Houck, inventor and developer of the PK Party

Monday, July 13, 2009.
Today Jack Houck, retired aerospace engineer with McDonnell Douglas and director of special projects (read: classified projects), called to inform me he had arranged to conduct the first remote PK Party tomorrow afternoon from his home in Huntington Beach, California. His friend and gifted psychic, Norma, would attempt to move the object in my house in Los Alamos, New Mexico, over a thousand miles away. The device had been constructed for this purpose in the mid 1980s. We speculated that having a well-established PK Party atmosphere would give the experiment the best chance for success. Many friends would be present to serve as a cheering section for Norma. My wife Birgitta and friend Quinn would join me at the appointed time in my home to witness any movement of one of the two hanging objects in a lidded, transparent cylindrical box.

For those not familiar with PK Parties, there is an excellent description of the process conducted by Jack Houck in the autobiographical book Travels, by the late popular novelist, Michael Crichton. The chapter is titled Spoon Bending. Furthermore, a Google search of "Spoon Bending" will offer many YouTube film clips of various successful PK Parties.

Tuesday, July14
The first attempt to move one of the hanging objects took place today at the appointed time. Many people, young and old, were gathered at Jack Houck's house in California to help Norma make the attempt. Birgitta, Quinn and I were witnesses of the device here in New Mexico. We connected with each other in a conference call on speaker phones. At a prearranged signal the command "Move! Move! Move!" was made and the three of us in NM watched the device carefully for any signs of movement. But we saw nothing happen.

Neither of those two hanging objects gave a hint of moving.

OK, I thought, back to the drawing board! In Jack's and my respective scientific research careers, first attempts of any experiment never functioned as expected. Null events simply tell us we have to rethink our approach and try again.

Wednesday, July 15
Not so fast!! Jack called and left a voice mail message on my home phone today that an unexpected "success" had happened at his house later on Tuesday evening and he was eager to tell me about it.

Thursday, July 16
I spoke to Jack today and he described the unexpected "success". That is, his water heater sprang a leak Tuesday evening, which grew into moving the water heater off its base! He was sure this strange coincidence was connected to our experiment and was not happy about it. "No more RPK parties at my house", he declared!

As we discussed this unexpected development, we decided a PK"Party" was not the best approach, since the it was not well enough focused. In talking to Norma later, she noticed the similarity in shape of the RPK device and Jack's water heater! She also reminded Jack and me that she had warned us to be alert for a possible delayed response. We then decided it would be best to narrow our focus on her solo attempt and have video movement detection (VMD) equipment in place to record any effects at any time. We are now in process of defining and acquiring the appropriate VMD system.

Monday, August 31
Finally we have a quote on equipment that seems appropriate to our task! I have sent out an inquiry email to those who either have already expressed interest or may conceivably be interested. If anyone reading this post has not been contacted, but is interested in this project, please add a comment below or email me at enk33[at]losalamos[dot]com..

Sunday, November 8, 2009
A month after accepting the above quote the video motion detection equipment arrived. I assembled it as best I could, but couldn't get it to function correctly. Finally I contacted the supplier who came to see what was the matter. It turns out that two components were defective, so he took them with him to remedy. I'm waiting for his return.

But the downtime is time not wasted, since it has allowed time to rethink the whole approach. I’m just now finishing Quantum Mind, the Edge between Physics and Psychology, by old friend Arnold Mindell (published in 2000) that is helping me see the issue—i.e., the concept of mass and matter--in a surprisingly more “shamanic” new way. [See here for Recontacting Arnold Mindell]. My last conversation with the “Crystal Group” has also helped in this.

Brief history of project.
This project began with a dream image on the morning of August 14, 1965. I was then a nuclear materials research scientist at General Atomic Corporation in La Jolla, California. [See Sighting on this blog series] I got so excited at this image and the sighting event of that afternoon, that I began working long hours on developing an experiment, which would challenge the current notions of mass and gravity. That first experimental setup was far more complex than the present design. Needless to say, in those days such an idea was too strange to be considered seriously by the scientific community and my professional and personal life soon tanked.

It took 13 years to recover enough professional credibility to try again. This time I succeeded gaining the interest of the Eyring Research Institute (ERI) in Provo, Utah, and in spring 1978 was invited to present my ideas to an ERI military-scientific task force team, which was interested in its potential military application. The resulting proposal was almost funded by the US Air Force, based at Hill AFB, north of Salt Lake City, but at the last minute they became "spooked" by potential PR risks and the potential sponsors withdrew their support.

That would seem to be the end of it except for the initiative of one of the official proposal referees, who had enthusiastically urged that the proposal be funded. Enter Jack Houck! I did not know him at the time, but when he learned that the project would go unfunded, he and his metallurgist friend Sevren Dallin decided to work on it themselves. It was Sevren's idea, Jack says, but Jack was the one who applied the idea until it produced reproducible results. That was the birth of the PK Party, and that aspect of the proposal, i.e., spoon bending, is now a matter of international public record.

Jack and I became acquainted several years later when I was engineering manager for a Brunswick Defense Corporation subsidiary in Santa Ana, California. One of Jack's physicist buddies, Bob Beck, had been a consultant for ERI during the Provo years that I was there and knew of Jack's subsequent interest in the ill-fated USAF proposal. Since I was now located in Southern California, Bob introduced me to Jack and we struck up a stimulating friendship.

This brings us to the present situation. The notion of remote PK (RPK) has not yet been responsibly demonstrated, so far as I know. It's time to do it!

The video motion detection and recording equipment is in! I'm in process of learning how to install, set it all up and to adjust the two cameras. There will be three views on the monitor screen: North camera looking east; East camera looking north and a video cam from across the room to show the overall system. The VMD system will allow selected stations from any place in the world to view the RPK device and witness the process.

That an object of a vaguely similar shape and function (they both contain "something"), i.e., the water heater, was moved in a quite extraordinary way certainly qualifies as synchronicity, at the very least. It implies that the "energy" doing the moving is not acting based on three dimensional principles of space and time or of our waking version of rationality. This force does not appear to distinguish between subjective, arational, non-spatial, non-temporal dream reality and "objective," "rational," spatial, temporal "waking reality. Because it operates more like the dream realm, in that it disregards such assumptions, that implies that to communicate with it and create a relationship with it we need to do our best to operate in its realm as well.

What that implies to me is that saying "move!" "move!" is a very consciously willful activity which mixes intention with cognitive constructs. It is not the way consciousness generally works in nature or in dreams.

Therefore, I would propose another approach: Why not turn the intention to move the target into a color, let that congeal into a shape, and interview it regarding its desire/intention to move? Questions could also be poised to the target and the surrounding environment regarding the experiment.

It seems to me that such an approach might have several advantages: 1) it tends to merge consciousness with both the instrumental energy involved as well as with the target; 2) it takes a decidedly non-waking, more dreamlike approach to reality and the experiment, which the force itself has a preference for; 3) it implies cooperation based on unity of subject (the experimenter) and object (the energy/target) rather than control and exploitation for conscious ends that may or may not communicate adequately or appropriately to the force.

The video motion detection equipment purchased over a month ago was found to be defective and has been returned to the supplier to be remedied. I expect to have it back in a week or two. But the downtime is time not wasted, since it has allowed time to rethink the whole approach. I’m just now finishing Quantum Mind, the Edge between Physics and Psychology, by old friend Arnold Mindell (published in 2000) that is helping me see the issue—i.e., the concept of mass and matter--in a surprisingly more “shamanic” new way [see Recontacting Arnold Mindell]. Joseph Dillard's Integral Deep Listening approach above had already softened me up for Mindell's monumental work. Also, my last conversation with “Crystal Group” friends Rex, Ken and Clark has helped.

The day after I entered the previous post, son Steve wrote: "Have you seen this movie yet? "

Knowing nothing about the movie, having ignored all the marketing hooks and hype for it, I had not even intended to see it until Steve wrote the above. Now curious, Birgitta and I went to see it the next day at the local theater. MY GOD!!! I can hardly believe how timely and relevant to this blog thread this film is!! Friend Jack Houck was one of the long-ago participants in the training of the RV team that the movie spoofs. The producers have obviously been privy to some really classified stuff.

Last Wednesday the vendor returned with new video surveilance camera and accompanying PC. The system is now up and running. I still have to make adjustments to position and stabilize all components and bring three cameras into focus on a split screen. Next Monday a computer expert is coming to show me how to connect everything to my PC so that selected viewers can watch the system live from their own PCs any place in the world.

This thread will end here and pick up at a new post site after the computer guy shows me how to put everything live on line. The new thread will be called Second Remote PK experiment

Kindly let me know if you want to be one of these viewers at my new email address: enk33@q.com.

Below is a photo of yours truly taken at Jack's PK Party #174 in Huntington Beach on July 28, 1987. Notice the RPK device to the left, belt high. The two hanging objects are the same as now (January 17, 2010), except the two identical spring assemblies consisted of 5 one-inch-long tiny springs hooked together. The current spring assemblies each consist of 4 one-inch-long tiny springs, so that both objects now hang at the same level an inch higher than in the 1987 photo.

Truth by Reason and by Revelation

23 April 2009
Forty four years ago today, I received a book that changed my life and that of my family. It was sent to where I worked as a research scientist at General Atomic in La Jolla, California, and its repercussions are still affecting me and family. The book was called Truth by Reason and by Revelation, written by Dr. Frank B. Salisbury, a respected professor of plant physiology at Colorado State University. Frank was the nephew of my erstwhile mentor Howard, who had sent it for my review from the perspective as a fellow believing Mormon scientist.

I found the book boring at the beginning--just another rationalization by a Mormon scientist trying to reconcile his religious upbringing with his scientific training--or so I thought. That is, until I got to the chapter on Flying Saucers. I was amazed to learn that this subject, which before reading Salisbury's book I had considered to be silly and due to mass hysteria, is not new. It even has Old Testament references.
