Purpose of the RPK Experiment

(Updated May 22, 2013)
The blog posts below are a running account of an experiment that began on August 14, 1965. It has taken this long to get it this simple and for technology to be available.

The present design is a descendant of the 1980s "PK Party" (spoon bending) developed by Jack Houck. Its purpose is to experience and explain the phenomenon of remote psychokinesis and to understand its uncertainties.

We are attempting to produce an NCR (non-consensus reality) event in a CR (consensus reality) frame of reference in order to learn how to apply what physicist/psychologist Arnold Mindell calls The Edge between Physics and Psychology in his seminal work Quantum Mind, published in 2000. We believe that this process will lead us to a more mature understanding of our physical and psychological capabilities, which will in turn help us develop deeper social responsibility for our planet in terms of raising our individual and collective awareness. We believe that this will help transform societal attitudes from ideological needs to subdue, dominate or control each other or other beings of all kinds (animate and inanimate). We believe that this can happen only by partnering and supporting each other in raising our mutual awareness in creative ways.

RPK Phase 3 (Victoria) Peru

While attending the recent IRVA conference in Las Vegas, I met with Victoria and John Alexander for dinner on Fathers Day to discuss strategy for Victoria's upcoming trip to Peru. She is in touch with a shamanic group down there who wish to be involved with the RPK experiment. Victoria put me in touch with Jill, who is coordinating things. Here is our recent email exchange, which contains current plans.

On June 27, Eugene wrote to Jill explaining the operation.
Dear Jill,
Victoria Alexander has asked me to send you details of our RPK experiment Phase 3 (Victoria).
I understand you are arranging a trip to Peru that she is planning to attend at the end of July. As you may already know, Victoria has suggested that there may be opportunity for the shamanic community there to participate in our experiment at an appropriate moment in the community ceremonies.
If after you read the information below and are still interested in participating in Phase 3, I will send you and/or Victoria photographs of the experimental setup, since I understand that the group in Peru does not have access to the internet.
If one or more participants of the Peruvian group can and are willing to remote view the RPK device, which is set up in my home, the objective would be for them to move one of two identical hanging objects in a small transparent plastic cylinder under 24/7 surveillance by two recording cameras positioned in a light-tight wooden box. The only difference between the two hanging objects is that one of them is painted red. An LED light source atop the lid of the cylinder provides constant stable illumination. This is for electronic motion detection monitoring.
The objective of the experiment is to make just one of the objects move without physically touching it in any way and without affecting the other. The preferred movement is to make one of them swing like a pendulum. It is very easy to activate the recording cameras by jumping on the floor of my computer room where the device sits on a high shelf, which is solidly hung from the ceiling of the second story of my house. In that heavy footed case both objects are set to bobbing up and down in unison, which takes several minutes to become still enough to deactivate the recording mechanism. That kind of movement is of no interest to us.
Jack Houck (inventor of the “PK Party”) and I have been working on this experiment for the past year and refer to it as “RPK”. FYI my interest in this experiment began in 1965 when I was a new Ph.D. engineering scientist working on nuclear materials for power reactors for General Atomic in La Jolla, CA. I was very much concerned with the central physics concept of mass, believing that the current scientific understanding of “mass” (as differentiated from “matter”) was not correct. In those days the experimental setup was far more complex than it is now. (The setup then consisted of a single hanging object in an evacuated bell jar on a seismic base in a Faraday cage to shield it from any outside physical influences.)  I hadn’t considered PK yet. The idea for two identical hanging objects (suggested by an engineer friend) elegantly eliminated the need for all those shielding precautions.
In May 1978 I began working with ERI (Eyring Research Institute) in Provo, Utah, on a solicited classified proposal for the USAF where we considered PK for the first time, taking into account the demonstrated anomalous experiences of Uri Geller and other psychic-magicians in deforming metal objects. I did not know Jack Houck in those days, but learned later after we had met in southern California (I was then an engineering manager for Brunswick Defense Corp.) that Jack was one of the official anonymous DOD referees of the ERI proposal. He told me then that when he read my proposal in early 1979 he enthusiastically urged the USAF to fund it. However, when funding did not come through he set to work in his own laboratory at McDonnell Douglas to see what he could do. Together with a metallurgist colleague he came up with what is now the well known and well-documented PK Party. I attended two of these parties in the mid 1980s. The problem with the PK Party approach in my view is that participants must touch the objects to be deformed. Hence, there is a need for a remote PK capability. We believe this capability exists and can be taught to ordinary people. That is the purpose of the RPK experiment.
[Incidentally, I learned only at the recent 2010 IRVA conference from its president Paul H. Smith why this funding did not come through back in 1979. Apparently the USAF decision makers had become aware of the concurrent work on remote viewing going on at SRI with Ingo Swann, Russell Targ and others.]
So far the results for the RPK experiment are recorded in several phases beginning with the “RPK Party” as Phase 1, where we attempted to use the same approach of Jack’s highly successful PK Party.  Jack introduced me to Norma, a gifted psychic friend in southern California, who demonstrated that she could remote view the device in my home in Los Alamos (1,000 miles away) before seeing a photograph of it. To begin with she had no idea what it looked like other than it was “something” on a shelf in my library. Once I was convinced she could remote view it, I asked if she could move it. That is what we have been trying to do since with mixed success.
Phase 1 (RPK Party) produced surprising results. These are described on my blog site. See: http://rpkexperiment.blogspot.com/. Because of these unexpected results, we abandoned the “party” approach in favor of a single person focus.
Phase 2 (Norma) allows Norma to work by herself to reach the experimental objective. She keeps a log of her attempts, which a young LANL physicist friend and I then compare to the recorded electronic data. Norma has chosen to concentrate on the red object in several stages. These stages and experimental methods are also described in the blog.
Phase 3 (Victoria) is a different approach. This is where you come in if your group is interested. Victoria has referred me to those who might have the ability to affect the objects remotely. I have viewed website of a well-known psychic and am impressed by what I see. It appears to be a clever magician’s act, but if it is more than that, then we have something important to talk about. I would ask you to set the silver object swinging without affecting the red one at a predetermined time. That way we know who is responsible for which movement.
Phase 4 (“Spooks”). At the recent IRVA conference in Las Vegas I met several ex-spooks (two of which were friends and colleagues of mine decades ago) who took an interest in this experiment. One of these was IRVA president Dr. Paul H. Smith, who invited me to make a presentation at next year’s conference. I hope to include a successful Phase 3 (Victoria) Peruvian experience in this future presentation.
I invite you and your group’s participation in this RPK experiment, which if it works as we hope it will present an important challenge to current theories in the world of science.
In light of the above description and if this is still of interest, let us work out a schedule (date and time period) for your group’s participation, so that I can preserve a dedicated time space for the experiment without concern for outside interference. If you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

On June 28, Jill replied.
Hi Eugene and Victoria,
Thanks for the info on the RPK experiment, sounds fascinating.  I was thinking it would be best to participate in this experiment in our last ceremony which will fall on Thursday, July 29th.  We can figure out an exact time in the near future.  Looking forward to being in communication about this further, this is a great opportunity to participate in something quite extraordinary.
Thank you,
Jill Levers

Hi Jill:
Based on your suggestion, I will schedule the equipment to be available only by your group all day on July 29 and 30. We don’t need an exact time from you except that you keep your own records and have them notarized or otherwise officially recorded for scientific purposes. After that period, we will review the electronic record for that time period to see what our equipment has registered.
Please be sure your group focuses on the silver-colored disc only and attempts to affect it in a pendulum motion.
I am attaching a few photos of what the objects look like. If you need more details let me know.
